What’s on the Front Page of a Newspaper?

The front page of a newspaper usually contains the biggest news stories in the country that the paper is circulated in, but it will also tease other interesting or important stories. For example, in cricket if someone scores a century, they will be front-page news and their score will be highlighted.

Three Jane Does who had been sex trafficked as minors sued Backpage in 2014, accusing it of facilitating sex trafficking through its business and editorial practices and design of the website. The district court ruled against them, but on appeal, the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Backpage’s actions were “traditional publisher functions” and protected by CDA Section 230.

Backpage was forced to shut down its adult services sections after a federal investigation that included collaboration between the FBI and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Its CEO, Carl Ferrer, pleaded guilty to facilitating prostitution and money laundering, acknowledging that the vast majority of ads on the site were for human trafficking and involving minors. He was sentenced to prison.[1] In August 2013, a federal judge enjoined a New Jersey law aimed at legislating Backpage out of existence, finding it to be preempted by Section 230 and in violation of the First Amendment and the Commerce Clause.
