Make an Impact on the World With a Degree in Global Affairs

Whether you’re passionate about international development, global law or international policy, you can make an impact on the world with an understanding of these issues. You’ll build the knowledge and real-world experience to work with different cultures, in government agencies or at nonprofits or business. You’ll also learn how to dig into data, find solutions and make the most of global opportunities.

Rather than being confined to political science, global affairs programs like UC’s incorporate perspectives from history, economics, environmental studies, journalism, languages and many others, helping you think flexibly across time periods and systems. This approach prepares you to tackle today’s most pressing global challenges, like terrorism, refugee crises and global inequality.

Students choose from a thematic or regional concentration to customize their major, and they can complement it with a second major or a minor. They complete a Capstone project or write a senior essay to showcase their analytical skills in the global field, and they can gain valuable work experience through a co-op, internship or study abroad opportunity.

At the Brookings Institution, experts research a wide range of global issues and recommend policies to address them. They help leaders in Washington and around the globe understand the impacts of events like the COVID-19 pandemic, analyze geopolitical competition and climate change, and find ways to advance peace and security worldwide. And they do it all with a deep understanding of different cultures, languages and traditions.
